As I’m sure you well remember, the events of 2020 caused us all to pivot and find new ways of operating. Prior to that year, our Strong Harvest team had conducted all trainings and activities in person, but the pandemic led us to rework our methods. That year we discovered that with more people becoming accustomed to using options like Zoom, combined with the global increase in the quality of internet connectivity, we could use technology to bring community empowerment to even more areas of the world.

What began as an unfortunate necessity has transformed into a viable and cost-effective method of teaching people to lift themselves out of poverty. We’re grateful to be able to use technology to reach places that are far from our home office, Field Representatives, and Field Partners – places that Strong Harvest may not ever be able to visit in person.

Participants in groups trained online this year (pictured above) live in India, the United States, and Nigeria, and their jobs include: nurse, pastor, community advocate, business person, farmer, and teacher. We are reaching far and wide with our Peer Educator training – in person and online!

Thank you for partnering with us to further this good work!

Caitlin – SHI Board Member

Meet Caitlin, our newest board member! Caitlin met SHI founders Rick and Jeri in Mto Wa Mbu, Tanzania, in 2014 when they held a Peer Educator training at the secondary school where she worked. They left a lasting impact on her about the “miracle” moringa tree, and Caitlin has been eating moringa and telling people about it ever since! Caitlin loves Strong Harvest’s model of peer education, and we are delighted that she joined the Board of Directors in July.

Caitlin is a single parent to Jude, a first grader, and they live in Vancouver, WA. They love to ride their bikes around town, relax and play games at a local coffee shop, hike, and spend time with friends and family. They are gearing up for their second trip to Tanzania this year during winter break!

Caitlin shares: “One of my favorite African proverbs is, ‘If you think you’re too small to make a difference, you haven’t spent a night with a mosquito.’ I see this as an example of the way we can educate others on the benefits of moringa, whether here with our colleagues, or abroad in a small village. You are never too small to bring moringa into the conversation. It is a wonderful thing to teach others what you know, and how it has personally benefited your family!”
