It has been an amazing year for Strong Harvest ~ planting seeds of hope with every Peer Educator trained and every moringa tree planted.
As Michael, one of our new Tanzanian Peer Educators, exclaimed,
“We should have known about this 10 years ago! We are new people now!!”
Check out our stories from the field this year:
- 126 additional Peer Educators were trained in Tanzania, Togo, Burkina Faso, and the U.S. They are sharing about the rich nutrition and positive life impact of moringa with their friends, neighbors, and entire communities!
- Some of our new Peer Educators really took off:
Tanzania – Mwanaidi and Travis together trained 75 people in their village; Yame trained the students at the secondary school where he teaches and will hold a village training in January 2015; Dotto, a primary school teacher, trained his students and planted trees at the school; and Diantha went back to her village, found moringa trees growing, and immediately started sharing!
Togo – Jean and Ralph trained 21 peer educators at the YWAM (Youth with a Mission) base in Noepe, and then Jean went on to train 47 more villagers after Ralph returned to the U.S. - 16 Peace Corps Volunteers received training in Tanzania; they will spread this knowledge wherever they go!
- 6 Peer Educator groups in Nicaragua received follow-up visits from Strong Harvest staff. Their strong engagement with moringa and their communities is having a positive impact!
- 6 countries were reached by our U.S. Peer Educators this year. They took their Strong Harvest training on the road to Zambia, Indonesia, Uganda, Togo, The Philippines, and areas of Nicaragua not yet reached by SHI staff.
- 4 languages – Our Strong Harvest training manuals are now available in Spanish, French (West African), Swahili, and English. Our translation team will keep growing in order to make this vital knowledge available to people in their own language!
- 3 dedicated women in Nicaragua formed a training team to start teaching their community how to use the moringa trees that are already growing in their yards to transform the health of their families. This is a village in which most people make their living and find much of their food by sifting through the garbage in the nearby city dump. But now they have access to moringa’s rich nutrition – and it’s growing right at their fingertips!
- 3 rural clinics in Tanzania now have Strong Harvest Peer Educators either as employees or volunteers. What a difference it will make to be able to share this life-changing information with their patients.
- 7,800 moringa seeds have been distributed to date, giving families the ability to have good nutrition, clean water, and economic opportunities right in their own backyards.
We are deeply grateful for all of you who supported, shared, trained, and traveled with us in 2014. We look forward to continuing this amazing story in 2015!
¡Muchas Gracias! Asante Sana! Merci beaucoup!
