One of the best parts of my job is letting you know about all the good that your support is doing around the world. This month, I want to give you a glimpse into the amazing things happening in Malawi.

We reached out to you at the end of August about an opportunity to purchase a bicycle for our Field Partner Moshi in Malawi. He and his dynamic Peer Educator team had already reached the 69 surrounding villages with the empowering knowledge of moringa, and Moshi was getting requests to teach in villages up to 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) away from his home in Chikwawa. Three of our awesome donors exceeded our bicycle fundraising goal in less than an hour!

Because of this, at the beginning of September we were able to send funds for the bicycle as well as additional funds for Moshi to hold another Peer Educator training in October. Moshi received his new bicycle on September 24th. Just two weeks later, Moshi rode his bicycle 3 hours north to the village of Dewule where he trained 10 more Peer Educators, doubling the size of his dynamic training team!

New Peer Educator Master Mission receives bags for planting moringa saplings.

The new Peer Educator team is already off and running. Each Peer Educator has decided to create a moringa nursery to grow saplings to distribute to the surrounding villages. In addition to that, two of the new Peer Educators have already hosted gigantic introductory trainings, teaching entire villages to improve their lives with the use of moringa. Peer Educator Mathews Tembo introduced moringa to over 1,200 people in his village of Chambakata, and Peer Educator Master Mission introduced moringa to over 1,650 people in his village of Chipolopolo!

Kate – SHI Board Secretary

Hear from Kate, one of our fantastic board members!

Kate

Growing up in Kenya, I witnessed firsthand the challenges related to poverty, health, and malnutrition. I consider myself blessed to have always had my basic needs met and to have had opportunities in life. This awareness fueled a deep desire within me to help others achieve the same. I am inspired by Strong Harvest’s mission to provide others with the opportunity to meet their basic needs and improve their quality of life; this aligns with my personal experiences and values.

I reside in Houston, TX, and my professional life revolves around the dynamic world of finance. While I find great satisfaction in working with numbers, my passion extends beyond my career. I am deeply committed to community development and always seek opportunities to make a positive impact. In my free time, you’ll often find me lost in a good book, cherishing moments with family and friends, or exploring new destinations and cultures through travel. These experiences enrich my life and fuel my desire to contribute meaningfully to my community.

I first heard about Strong Harvest from a dear friend who had previously served as a board member. Their enthusiasm was contagious, and I instantly felt a connection to the organization. My knowledge of moringa was limited to its occasional appearance in my mum’s recipes, but I was intrigued. What truly captivated me was witnessing the genuine passion and dedication of Rick and Jeri, the founders of Strong Harvest. Their unwavering commitment to educating people worldwide on the benefits of moringa and making a positive impact on lives resonated deeply with me. I joined the Board of Directors in April 2023 and currently serve as the Board Secretary and the Director of the Board Social Committee. The journey has been nothing short of inspiring, and I am proud to be part of a mission that strives to make a global difference.

Strong Harvest embodies a “think global, act local” model. We tackle major issues like hunger, environmental degradation, and child mortality – challenges that can often seem daunting and whose statistics can be overwhelming. However, our grassroots approach makes a tangible difference in the lives of real families. My favorite part is hearing the heartfelt stories from our Field Representatives about the lives being transformed. These narratives remind me daily of the impact we’re making and reaffirm why our work is so vital.

We are grateful that Kate is an integral part of this transformational community!
